Pattern Staples: Top Five Indie Woven Tee Patterns!
Hi Friends!
There are certain patterns that are essential to any sewists collection, and a woven tee pattern is definitively one of them. Woven fabrics are so easy to find in stores, but they aren't nearly as comfortable as knits - especially in fitted garments. While there is a time and a place for beautiful fitting blouses, sometimes a girl just needs to be comfy, and thats where the woven tee comes in.
Woven tee's are great because they combine the comfort and wearability of a tee shirt, while offering a great opportunity to play with woven fabrics. This would be an amazing project for most beginners because it can be made in easy to sew materials.
In short, I love woven tee's. They're hands down my most made garment ever.
If I've convinced you that you need a woven tee pattern in your collection, you're in luck because there are plenty of options. I've outlined some of the choices down below. Check it out! All images are courtesy of the pattern designers.
Sewaholic - Belcarra Blouse
This woven tee has super cute raglan sleeves and looks surprisingly professional for a tee shirt. I love the option to add pleats to the sleeves or a tiny pocket. Out of all the pattern options I found, this one seems to have the most shaping.
Suitable for bust sizes 30"-41", and drafted with the pear-shaped woman in mind so the bust sizes run small (Flat girls rejoice!!).
Made by Rae - Beatrix Blouse
This woven tee is easily the most complex make out of the bunch. The back buttons really elevate the garment, and I love the option for the shirt-tail hem! Plus, two sleeve lengths!
This pattern is suitable for women with an upper bust measurement between 30"-41", or a full bust measurement of 32"-44". My favourite part of this pattern is that they offer two different front bodice sizing options, one for A/B cups and one for C/D. For a lot of people that will mean no FBA or SBA - YAY
SEW DIY - Lou Box Top
In contrast to the Beatrix above, the Lou Box Top is the easiest option I'm presenting today!
This pattern is suitable for women with bus sizes 32"-51", with around 8 inches of ease built in for each size.
Grainline - Scout Tee
This is the only woven tee I own so far, and its really serve me well. Its a simple canvas that's ready to tackle any design detail you can think of - including hamburger print and raw hems! Its the most simple pattern of the bunch, but also the most versatile.
This pattern is suitable for women with bust sizes between 32"-44". I was able to get away without doing an FBA on this pattern and I think it looks fine!
Imagine Gnats - Bess Top
This pattern has a cute pleated yoke, and is the only pattern option I've shared with a dress option included in the pattern! While with some pattern drafting magic, any of these shirts could be turned into a dress, its nice to have the convenience of a dress pattern already drafted.
You should note that the instructions ask you to finish the sleeve/neckline with knit binding. You could totally do this if you wanted, or just substitute the knit binding with bias tape to keep the whole top woven!
This pattern is suitable for women with busts sized 31"-50.5". This is the largest size range I found for a woven tee pattern.
That concludes my roundup of the best woven tee patterns available on the market right now, did I miss any? My favourites are the Belcarra and Beatrix, but I can't decide which I should try first. Let me know your thoughts down bellow!
Until next time,
Rachel
